The only person who hasn't closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna's daughter. But if anyone were to discover
how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna's life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them.
The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to absolve the mistakes of her past in order to build a future out of hope and healing.
Review:
Like many, I discover Colleen Hoover through BookTok. The social media book craze has skyrocketed Hoover's novels to the top of the Best Sellers list over the last two years, with It Ends With Us coming to life on the big screen. Hoover's writing style brings angst, mystery, and love together, drawing you in and enthralled with the question, "How will this end?" often leaving you baffled and shocked till the last sentence.
Reminders of Him did not disappoint.
In the beginning, what led to Kenna's tragic incident isn't apparent, causing me to view her as a villain seeking redemption. I found myself thinking she felt a sense of entitlement, and in the next chapter, my heart wrenched at her pain.
There wasn't a character in this story that I couldn't understand or sympathize with. The tragedy impacted each character's perception of what they believed was true.
Throughout the book, you're taking a journey down memory lane as Kenna recants each interaction, each moment leading up to the one that changed her life. When the picture finally becomes more apparent, you'll root for her and her happily ever after, no matter how unconventional I may have found it.
I wasn't completely blown away or left in shock as I have been by Hoover's novel Layla and Verity, but it still sent me on an emotional rollercoaster.
